Dreamfyre

Dreamfyre
Riders:
Rhaena Targaryen,  Helaena Targaryen,

Description

Dreamfyre was a slender she-dragon. Her coloration was primarily pale blue, with silver markings. She had silver crests and pale blue wings. By 35 AC, Dreamfyre was large enough for the twelve-year-old Rhaena Targaryen to mount her.

Dreamfyre was born during the reign of King Aegon I Targaryen. She formed a bond with Princess Rhaena Targaryen, the king's first grandchild, when she was just a hatchling. Three years later, Rhaena became Dreamfyre's rider. In 41 AC, Rhaena was married to her brother, Aegon, and was sent on a royal tour by their father, King Aenys I Targaryen. Rhaena desired to take Dreamfyre with her, but her father refused as Aegon had not yet established a connection with a dragon, and he did not want his son to be seen riding a horse while his wife rode a dragon. As a result, Dreamfyre remained in King's Landing.

Dreamfyre had produced two clutches of dragon eggs by 43 AC. During Rhaena's second stay at Fair Isle in 49-50 AC, Dreamfyre laid another clutch of eggs. However, the presence of Dreamfyre and her eggs on the island caused concern among the residents. A begging brother even began to preach about the imminent danger of dragons overrunning the island and eating both sheep and people. Despite being arrested, his words incited fear. Consequently, Rhaena decided to leave Fair Isle, taking Dreamfyre and the eggs with her. After spending some time at Casterly Rock, where Dreamfyre was given a whole stable, Lord Lyman Lannister showed interest in the eggs and asked how they would hatch and when. Lady Jocasta Lannister suggested that giving one or more eggs to the Lannisters would be a good way to show gratitude. However, Rhaena declined, prompting Lord Lyman to offer to purchase the eggs.

In the era of King Viserys I Targaryen, Princess Helaena Targaryen formed a bond with Dreamfyre. At the age of eleven, Helaena became Dreamfyre's rider, and the dragon became very dear to her. During the Dance of the Dragons, Helaena's six-year-old son was killed in the civil war, causing Helaena to fall into despair. She became unable to ride Dreamfyre, who was kept in the Dragonpit. When Helaena threw herself out of her Maegor's Holdfast window and died, Dreamfyre reportedly let out a deafening roar that shook the Dragonpit and broke two of her chains.
