Tyraxes

Tyraxes
Rider:
Joffrey Velaryon

Description

Tyraxes was the dragon bound to Prince Joffrey Velaryon during the Dance of the Dragons. Tyraxes was thriving and growing larger every year, he was slightly smaller than Vermax and Arrax. By the time of the Dance of the Dragons, he had recently being able to fly long distances with its rider, but was not quite big enough for combat yet.

Rhaenyra Targaryen had three sons: Jacaerys, Lucerys, and Joffrey. Her stepmother's faction spread rumors that they were not really fathered by Ser Laenor Velaryon. To prove their legitimacy, King Viserys I placed a dragon egg in each of the boys' cradles. The eggs hatched and the dragons were named Vermax, Arrax, and Tyraxes. The exact dates of their hatching are unknown.

Joffrey implored his mother to allow him to join the war on Tyraxes, but she denied his request. Eventually, Joffrey and his cousin Rhaena of Pentos were sent to the Vale of Arryn to be under the care of Lady Jeyne Arryn. They rode Tyraxes from Dragonstone to Gulltown and then to the Eyrie.

When Rhaenyra conquered King's Landing, she summoned Joffrey back to the city, and he returned on Tyraxes. During this time, Tyraxes took refuge in the Dragonpit during riots, where it caused numerous casualties. The mob eventually entered from the back entrance, confusing Tyraxes, who strangled himself with his chains. The Shepherd's followers later cut off the membranes of Tyraxes' wings to make dragonskin cloaks.
